Start with the everyday moments.
You do not need a finished care plan before calling. Think about the parts of the day that would be easier with another person there: getting dressed, making lunch, doing laundry or spending an afternoon together.
If you are calling for someone else, include their preferences. Their usual routine, interests and comfort level are a useful starting point.
Bring these five questions.
- What help can you provide with the tasks we have in mind?
- Can you cover the days and times we need, and are there visit minimums?
- What would the proposed schedule cost, including any additional charges?
- Who should we contact if the schedule or our needs change?
- What has to happen before the first visit?
Take the next step when you are ready.
Ask for a written explanation of the proposed services, schedule and price before agreeing to care. If someone else is helping make the decision, invite them into the conversation.
Your first conversation is a chance to ask questions. Details for a care record and payment arrangements come later, when you are ready to move forward.
